UT, drafts, and J. McClain (not die hard)

John McClain, I have listened to your opinion for over a decade and come to respect many things you say. That being said, when you go after my beloved Longhorns is when I draw the line. Little John decided to put out a die hard article out about Longhorn players being selected in the top 10 of the NFL draft have which have been bust, or have not reached their potential. He wrote this article, telling people that you should not be surprised if Brian O'Sackpo is not drafted in the top 10.

Now that you have the background, I want to tell the whole world that The University of Texas in Austin is no "country club". John, if I want to know something about Baylor I will call you. Since you haven't spent a day in the shoes of a Longhorn, don't put garbage out there that may raise some doubts about a player that should have been drafted in the top 10. Your opinion is your opinion (just like mine is mine - I'm just right), but I would like you to think about what you're saying about these players. The facts are simple, Texas players have been solid in professional sporting careers; Vince Young, who has had two solid years, had a tough year last year and Little John is ready to call him a bust.

Michael Huff plays for one of the most ridiculous teams in the NFL and yet you call him a bust when maybe if he were in a better situation he would be a better player. Both Ricky Williams and Leonard Davis have been very serviceable players. I will give you Mike Williams as a bust, but to write an article about all the Longhorns taken in the top 10 are not worth anything is just the wrong thing to say. When you have a program like UT you will have a lot of players going to the NFL and because a few of them may not work out, you call the program a country club. I never hear people talk about the players from OU that don't work out in the NFL, but TEXAS gets all the [negative] attention.

Like it or not John, it may be time to hang it up; you've done this job for a while and I feel you could consult for the newspaper, from time to time, but your opinion(s) in your latter years aren't worth much. Have some dignity and go ahead and bid us a farewell -- you will not be missed!

Staffords and drafts and money, oh my!

First of all, I want to thank everyone for speaking out about Stacy McGravy: whether it was good, bad or just plain ridiculous. It's great to read what you have to say. Keep it up!

Now, for today's topic: Matthew Stafford. It is a far gone conclusion that Matthew Stafford will be the first player taken in tomorrow's draft. Matthew, I truly hope you have a successful career in the NFL, but let’s keep it real - there is no reason for Stafford to make more or equal to the proven quarterbacks in the league. MS hasn't thrown a single NFL pass and yet he is about to become one of the richest quarterbacks in the history of the game. What the hell are they smoking and where can I get some LOL! I don't know when, hopefully very soon, the NFL will get a clue and implement a rookie salary cap. Trust that I’m not mad at the players for getting that cheddar. My problem is that proven players losing their jobs because a team has to take on the responsibility of their newest draft pick. I don't really understand how all of the numbers work when contracts for rookies are being divvied out, but I do know that Stafford should not be making more money than Donavan McNabb.

The draft numbers are the most important numbers in the world because if your name gets called within the first 31 picks, you're guaranteed a contract (even if you suck). I can't believe this sport, that I would lay my life down for (EXTREME FAN), would be so stupid to give away money to players who will not deserve it until a year or two later down the line.

So MS you should get on your knees and thank god that the NFPLA still haven't seen the light on how they should go about taking care of all of their players - not just the rookies and superstars: they should take care of all. Like it or not, if we continue on the pace that we are on, in five years the first player taken will probably get a contract that has about 100million guaranteed. If we don't get a handle of this, one player might be worth more than the franchise. (WHO DO YOU THINK WILL BE MAKING THE DECISIONS?)

Good morning people:

Like it or not, I’m back, and yes, I am about to talk a lot of smack (okay enough with the rhyming). As you know, the NFL draft is right around the corner and if I have to look at another mock draft I am going to personally shoot myself in the head with that gun that the killer from No Country for Old Men was using to kill his victims.

Can someone please tell me why every year we gather around a TV and pray that our home-team drafts a player that we feel can save our franchise? Deep down, we know the contribution from said player (with no experience) will either be hit or miss. I can’t lie; I to along with the rest of you guys will gather around the TV and hope that the Houston Texans will draft a player that can push us over the top and start a new tradition called THE PLAYOFFS!

Let’s be honest, can one player really push a team over the top? For you die hards, who can rattle off all the names of great players from the draft in previous years? My question to you is how soon did it translate to success for the franchise? Exactly.

Please don’t get me wrong, I love the draft; however, I just can’t understand why we fall for the all the hoopla around this time when we know that 80% of the players drafted will become a DISATOROUS BUST!

Can’t I have a normal day without putting all my eggs in the proverbial NFL draft basket? I need people who feel like me to fight back against ESPN and let’s do something totally different on this Saturday. Instead watching the NFL SHAFT all day long, let us join together and do something that we can look back and be proud of versus the norm of waiting for our hometown team to let us down once again (Houston Texans: I'm looking at you).
